WE TRY to arrange
a major activity each week, either a concert party in our main dinning
room or at outside locations. An outing to places of interest around our
area.
The main
thrust is to try and prevent the ‘invisible fence’ from being built around
the property and to encourage community activities in large or small groups.
THE WEEKLY
small group shopping trip to Carindale Centre is well patronized by residents
who have anxiety with large numbers of people and we have noticed after
a few escorted trips, many feel able to cope in a small unescorted group.
The Gold Coast is another popular destination and is not too difficult
to organize as it again is a group outing.
EACH MONTH
we have our happy hour when all the residents are invited to celebrate
birthdays and special events. This is held in the main dinning room
and all staff provide a full restaurant service to our residents.
Beer, wine and non alchoholic punch are served with an extra special
meal. Something totally different, an event much looked forward to by staff
and residents.
WE ARRANGE
introductions for our residents to other groups in the community, Clubs,
Churches and activity groups in an effort to integrate and lower the barriers.
OUR INTERNAL
activities program, which changes to meet the residents needs, consist
of table games and cards and music and singing sessions, we have our own
piano and stereo system with microphone, exercise and fitness, group discussions
about news and general interest items and any other activity that is popular.
We encourage participation of residents, many of who have hidden talent,
and all are welcome to rekindle these skills with the help and support
of the group.
IN SUMMARY
we work with the resident to provide adequate support without creating
a dependency need in an effort to promote a caring yet independent lifestyle.
